The 2004 Reno Air Races are over, and the Pitts Specials did pretty well in the biplane class. Pitts Special variants comprised 15 out of the 21 planes entered in the class. Norman Way’s Pitts S1 “Magic” hit 214.9 mph in the final race, taking third place, while many other Pitts Specials were routinely breaking the 170 mph mark, with several going significantly faster. (Not too shabby for a plane originally designed for an A-65!) In fact, the Biplane Silver race was comprised entirely of Pitts Specials! Congratulations to all participants on another exciting and safe year at Reno… we look forward to seeing more great biplane races during the next year!
